Helping your community can take many forms. It can be as involved as joining a local non-profit or volunteering to serve on a local board. As action-oriented as donating money or needed goods to a local group or organization. Or as simple as visiting a local museum or landmark and sharing your experience with friends and family.

Below are a few ideas to get you started. But there's no limit to the help you can provide. If you have additional ideas you'd like to share with our neighbors, please click here.

  • VOTE. Your vote is your voice. And democracy isn't the Olympics... you don't just hit the polling paces once every four years. The decisions made by local officials have much more of an impact on your daily life than anything that happens in Washington. Vote to make sure the people you want to represent you are. Election Day is Tuesday, November 7.  To find your polling place, click here.

  • Financial donations are wonderful. But donating your time or sweat can be just as valuable. Like and follow the Harris Township Government's Facebook page for announcements on community improvement efforts (and how you can help) that make a huge difference.

  • Improving your community starts at home. Spend a few minutes each week to improve your "curb appeal" by raking leaves, tidying up trash, and doing your part to keeping our villages beautiful.

  • The Pennsylvania Military Museum is the signature of Boal Ave. and a source of pride for our entire community. Click here to learn how you can support the Museum and save on admission and Store purchases. As a simple idea for additional support and engagement, use the grounds as your "front yard". Invite friends to join you on walks along the paved paths. Introduce visitors from out of town to the many outdoor monuments. There are lots of ways to engage with the museum and support this local landmark.
  • Volunteer an hour or two each month on one of the many local government boards or committees that help shape our Harris Township way of life. Click here for details.

  • Talk with your neighbors about projects that can be shared. Planting new flowers near a street corner in your neighborhood.  Joining efforts to keep sidewalks shoveled. Tons of projects that seem huge can become simple when neighbors work together.

  • What do you think of when asked, "I wish there was more help for _______ in our community." Local non-profit groups and organizations are in need of support in ways that range from volunteer hours to simple donations of goods. Start a conversation with your neighbors to learn about local groups you can support in surprising new ways.

  • Want to celebrate our incredible community? Get out and walk it! Our abundance of natural resources provides a wide array of hiking and biking trails that rival any area in the Eastern United States. The surrounding mountains of forests are the perfect setting for adventure. To gets started, click here for maps and path suggestions in a range of difficulty levels.

  • A healthy community starts with a healthy you. Beyond the outdoor activities listed above, make sure you take time to take care of yourself: your health and fitness matter in countless ways.  Visit The D-Stress Station on Boal Ave. or a local gym like nearby Fitology to discover new ways to relax and recharge.
